Bach Flower Remedies were named after Dr Edward Bach, who discovered
the healing properties of his 38 Flower Remedies in the late
1930's. Since then Bach Flower Remedies have become famous the
world over. Crystal Herbs have made these remedies with love,
to the original instructions of Dr Bach since the late 1980's.
'Real health is happiness, and a happiness so easy
of attainment because it's a happiness in small things; doing
the things that we really do love to do, being with the people
that we truly like. There is no strain, no effort, no striving
for the unattainable. health is there for us to accept any
time we like. It is to find out and do the work that we are
really suited for.' From The Collected Writings of Dr
Bach
Bach Flower Groups
- Dr Bach's Seven Groups
Dr Bach placed his Flower Remedies into 7 groups. Each group
of Remedies represents the differing ways a particular mental
or emotional state could be seen and experienced in the personality.
The Flower Remedies are ideal for treating these patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions
- A Guide to Bach Flowers
Are there any contra-indications to using the remedies?
Bach Flower Remedies can be used by anyone safely and
easily. They are usually preserved in a small amount of
brandy. You only need four drops at a time, so the amount
of alcohol is very slight and the drops can be taken in
water if you prefer to dilute the taste. If you need to
avoid alcohol altogether, ask to have them made up in an
alternative medium.
How many can I put in a blend?
Bach Flower Remedies can be used in combinations of 7
or 8 Remedies at a time for an adult. See
below for children and animals.
What is Rescue Remedy™ and can I use it in a blend
of Bach Flower Remedies?
Rescue Remedy™ is a trademarked name for a calming
blend of the five Bach Flowers which treat our five most
common reactions to shock, stress or nervous anticipation.
You can use Rescue Remedy™ or its equivalent such
as Emergency Essence or Five Flower Remedy in a blend with
other Bach Flowers or
on its own in times of stress or shock. If you add it
to a blend you won't need to add any of the five flowers
it already contains which are: Impatiens, Rock Rose, Cherry
Plum, Clematis and Star of Bethlehem. It has different names
depending on the brand you use. See below.
It is also available from Crystal Herbs as Emergency Essence
Cream: a
very useful cream for bruises, sprains, scars, spots
and all kinds of skin problems. Many teenage clients with
erupting complexions swear by it!
Can Bach Flowers be taken if I'm already taking other
essences?
Bach Flower Remedies can be used alongside other essences,
just take them 20 minutes away from each other. They work
well in combination with deeper acting essences which release
issues from the unconscious into the conscious mind. The
Bach Remedies are then able to clear the resulting emotional
and mental states and patterns as they emerge into our conscious
mind, gently and easily.
Will Bach Flowers compromise any other treatment I'm
having?
Bach Flower Remedies won't interfere with other forms
of treatment; just leave a 20 minute gap between taking
them and any other medication.
I've tried Rescue Remedy and some of the individual Bach
Flowers but they don't seem to work.
This is vibrational medicine, so the way in which essences
are made is critical to their effectiveness. If one brand
has not had an effect, then change the brand you're using.
Please see below for brands I recommend.
Do Bach Flowers have other uses?
Bach Flower Remedies are very effective with animals and
plants as well as adults and children.'Our farm collie, Hamilton, is definitely better
- being calmer and more accepting of visitors, and fitting
in more; so I think your attunement drops are working'Sheila
Whittaker, sound therapist
What happens if I choose an essence I don't actually need?
No harm comes from the wrong remedy as it cancels itself
out if not needed.
What is the difference between the Bach Flower Remedies
and other essences on your website?
Bach Flowers work wonderfully well in clearing the conscious
mind. They work with states which we are aware of and therefore
they are easy to self-prescribe, as you know if you are
feeling angry, impatient or lonely, for example. As you
can see from the website there are many other essences now
available which work at a deeper level, where these states
originate. They work on the karmic cellular level of our
issues, on deep-rooted family patterns, conditioning and
beliefs. Since these reside in the unconscious it can be
much harder to prescribe for yourself, so you may like to
consider a personal attunement
if you'd like to work at this level.

Essences for Children
Children respond very quickly to essences and for this reason
care needs to be taken when prescribing essences particularly
for babies and very young children. Here are some general
guidelines and suggestions.
0 - 7 years:- For this age range we recommend that
you only use Crystal Herbs Bach Flower Remedies. A well-chosen
combination of not more than 4 or 5 remedies will very quickly
help to bring children back into balance. Most children enjoy
taking their drops directly onto their tongues, however you
could also add them to their drinks if necessary. 4 drops
4 x a day is normally enough at this age. For babies the remedies
can be added to the bath water or dabbed on the pulse points
on the body.
To decide which remedies would most help your child, observe
how he or she reacts to the situations around them. You will
see that, like adults, each child in a family reacts differently
to the same circumstances. For instance one might react with
fear while another reacts with anger and yet another might
become clingy. By choosing the remedies that will help to
balance the states that you observe, you'll greatly help your
child to cope with life and its inevitable ups and downs.
A few Bach flower suggestions to get started:- Emergency Essence - always handy for bumps, bruises
accidents and shocks. Also helpful for night terrors along
with Aspen and Mimulus.
Agrimony, Larch & Mimulus for the generally fearful
and timid child. Vervain helpful for the hyperactive state. Holly, Walnut and Vine for temper tantrums. Chicory, Willow & Holly For sibling rivalry. Clematis helpful for the dreamy inattentive child.
Emergency Essence cream always useful for children
& adults alike.
8-12 years:- Bach Flower Remedies are also very effective
with this age group, however we suggest that you increase
the frequency of the dosage to 4 drops 6 x a day. You could
also introduce some of our individual flower and crystal essences
at this age. Start with one at a time, 4 drops 2 x a day.
This will probably be enough for most children. Towards the
top of this age range you could mix up to 3 individual essences
into a combination maximum dosage 4 drops 3 x a day.
Suggestions for individual flower and crystal essences:- Pansy This is an excellent remedy for all, to help
boost the immune system and to clear viruses. We have found
that it has been particularly beneficial for children who
are susceptible to colds, sore throats and viruses and infections
of all kinds. Celandine Helpful for those who have difficulty assimilating
information. Harebell Helpful for the very shy. Petunia Helpful for impish and hyperactive children
Nettle Helps children with the stress and trauma related
to family problems like divorce or adoption.
Age 12 onwards:-After the age of twelve you
can start to introduce The
Combinations for Self-Treatment, Chakra
Combinations and Inner
Child Essences in the Crystal Herb range, however reduce
the dose to 4 drops 2 or 3 x a day.
NB:- We do not recommend that you give Crystal HerbsKarmic Essences to children
under 14 years old orLight Body
Essencesto children under 16 years old.
NB:- Using essences is not a substitute for medical attention
- if your child is ill consult a medical practitioner.
Dosages
How many Essences can I take at a time?
This depends on which of the essence groups you wish to work
with. Check here.
Bach Flower Remedies We recommend that you use these
remedies made up into combinations of 7 or 8 individual remedies.
It's better not to include essences from other groups in these
combinations. However a well-chosen combination of Crystal
Herbs Bach Flower Remedies can often be very helpful when
taken alongside one of our deeper acting combinations. See
the explanation above.
Brands - Choosing an Effective Brand
Please be aware that not all Bach Flower brands contain the
same level of energy. They need to be made following Dr Bach's
original instructions with the right energetic intention.
Essence producers are subject to changes in management and
production which can affect this. I currently recommend Crystal
Herbs (pictured at the top of the page) and Healing
Herbs as retaining the original strength of the Bach Flowers.
As a rule of thumb, steer clear of mass-produced brands
you find in chemists and health food chains; they are likely
to be ineffective. Often specialised independent retailers
have more awareness of the best ranges to stock. Ordering
online is also quick and easy. Both Healing Herbs and Crystal
Herbs will deliver within one or two working days and can
give advice and take orders over the phone, if you'd rather
speak to a human being.
Rescue Remedy™
Please note that Rescue Remedy™ is
a trademarked name for a blend of the five Bach Flowers which
treat our five most common reactions to shock or stress. It
is called Emergency Essence in the Crystal Herbs range and
Five Flower Remedy by Healing Herbs.
