From Perfectionism to Relaxation - Bach to Basics |
|
Are you micro-managing your environment and the people around you? Do you notice yourself fussing over details, nit-picking and wishing people would do it your way? Are you downhearted that your appearance or health or life in general fall short of your ideal?
When we feel anxious we may displace our anxiety onto some small matter and it becomes important out of all proportion. For example we may have good reason to be worried about a health diagnosis or a financial situation but instead we fixate on cleaning the windows or sorting out our paperwork. When we don't feel in control or we don't want to face something it's easier to tackle a task where we can easily make a difference.
This state of mind often begins in childhood if our parents weren't comfortable with us making mistakes. Instead of seeing mistakes as part of learning - never mind, try again - we saw them as something shameful. This can make it difficult for us to take risks - it encourages us to stay in our comfort zone where we feel in control and where it's less likely that we'll get it wrong.
This state is therefore likely to arise as an adult when you contemplate moving out of your comfort zone, when you're going into unknown territory or you're in any situation when you cannot control the outcome or you risk looking undignified, foolish or less than perfect. Crab Apple is definitely the remedy to reach for if you feel inhibited about your physical body or your sexuality, or if these bring up feelings of shame or self-consciousness.
When you take Crab Apple you become more comfortable with the idea that life is full of less than ideal situations and people, that there's more than one way to achieve something. You're able to open your mind to new ideas and experiences and to tolerate chaos, dirt, unpleasant odours and disorder as part of the process of creative change. You can laugh at your 'mistakes' and see they are necessary to learning and expanding into a more interesting, richer and joyous life.
As you start to relax, you become more approachable and it's easier for you to flex your usual schedule, try a new hobby and make new friends. You'll also stop sweating the small stuff and deal with what's truly important in your life.
