What is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram is an ancient system of nine personality types. It's believed to have originally been taught orally in secret Sufi brotherhoods in the Middle East. It is very rewarding to explore and has tremendous depth once you start to study it. I find it very useful in determining soul challenges in my work. Below are summaries of the gifts and challenges of each type with essence suggestions to support them. The Bach flower options are great for children and for conscious change. The deeper acting essences are best for cellular level, karmic shifts. N.B. Each number has two other numbers as 'wings', so you'll always see yourself in more than one number.

The Nine Enneagram Types

• 1. The Reformer - Can lead through integrity and reason OR be hindered by perfectionism and resentment.
  Bach Flower: Beech
  Deep Acting: English Watercress (Found in Saturn blend)
• 2.The Helper - Can shine with generosity and healing power OR struggle with people-pleasing and possessiveness.
  Bach Flower: Chicory
  Deep Acting: Golden Raspberry
• 3.The Achiever - Can become an inspiring example of excellence and authenticity OR blindly pursue success and status.
  Bach Flower: Wild Oat
  Deep Acting: Red Valerian
• 4.The Individualist - Can model creativity and intuitive power OR be held back by moodiness and self-consciousness.
  Bach Flower: Heather
  Deep Acting: Sweet Pea (Found in Uranus blend)
• 5.The Investigator - Can demonstrate visionary intellect and inventiveness OR become increasingly eccentric and isolated.
  Bach Flower: Water Violet
  Deep Acting: Bengal Trumpet Vine (Found in Speaking your Truth blend)
• 6.The Loyalist - Can exemplify courage and commitment OR struggle with anxiety and rebelliousness.
  Bach Flower: Aspen
  Deep Acting: Red Clover (Found in Take Courage blend)
• 7.The Enthusiast - Can become highly accomplished and spirited OR be waylaid by impulsiveness and impatience.
  Bach Flower: Chestnut Bud
  Deep Acting: Dandelion (Found in Saturn blend and Healthy Rhythms blend)
• 8.The Challenger - Can be a powerful, magnanimous leader OR control and intimidate others.
  Bach Flower: Vine
  Deep Acting: Snapdragon
• 9.The Peacemaker - Can bring people together and heal conflicts OR be held back by passivity and stubbornness.
  Bach Flower: Agrimony
  Deep Acting: Morning Glory (Found in Graceful Release blend, Financial Flow blend and Healthy Choices blend)

How Do I Know Which Type I Am?

You can take an online test or read about the types in the recommended books below. The best way is to go to a workshop where you can see the different types in 'panels' where they explain their attitude to life. You'll soon spot where you fit in. Of the nine types, there are three head types, (5, 6 and 7) three heart types (2,3 and 4) and three gut types (8, 9 and 1). It can sometimes be an easier first step to work out which of these three centres, gut, head or heart, is where you feel the most comfortable and where you feel that your identity and power resides.
